Momiji season is just around the corner. Actually, though, I can take my time because the maple leaves in the Kyoto area are just, and when I say just, I mean barely, beginning to change. Most of the leaves around Kyoto are still green...bright green. Only a few trees here and there have begun changing color, and those trees are in direct sunlight.

Temperatures in the Kyoto area have not really been cold yet; not even cool really. The lowest temperature we've had a night so far this autumn was around 12ºC, but that was only for one or two nights. Temps then went back up and have stayed at around 18ºC each night. Temperatures need to drop a lot more to cause the maples and other tree leaves to begin changing more quickly. If not, look for a very long maple leaf season that could extend well into December like last year.

For now, take your time because the leaves in the Kansai region are still green!

Kyoto reported blossoms already showing on March 17th, about 5 days earlier than last year.

What places are people going to view cherry blossoms? My personal favorite is Sewari Park. It is located halfway between Osaka and Kyoto along the Yodo and Kizu rivers where over 250 cherry trees are lined along a walkway between the two rivers on a sort of peninsula.
