TOUR OF KENG TUNG FROM NORTHERN THAILAND 4 DAYS/3 NIGHTS


Day 1: CHIANG RAI - KENG TUNG (L,D)

Pick up at your Chiang Rai hotel at 8am to transfer to the Mae Sai-Tachileik border for immigration and customs formalities, a drive of about one hour. Then go by road from Tachileik to Keng Tung (a distance of 102km taking about 3 hours going through rolling hills and wild country crossing rivers, valleys and passing ethnic minority villages. Half-way stop is made at Phayak for about 15 minutes before continuing on our way to Keng Tung. Upon arrival, go to lunch at Mountain View restaurant, an introduction to the local cuisine, before checking into hotel to freshen up. City orientation tour to include the Lone Tree Hill for panoramic views of Keng Tung. After visiting a local Shan lacquerware factory, visit Maha Myat Muni Pagoda, the holiest temple in Keng Tung. Dinner at the Golden Bayan Tree restaurant of Shan food.
Overnight at Princess or Private Hotel, Keng Tung.


Day 2: KENG TUNG (B, L, D)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Full day excursion to explore the many and still very traditional ethnic minority communities of the Golden Triangle area.
A 45-minute drive from Keng Tung is Wam Pauk, the home of the red-clothed Palaung tribe. An easy trek of 15 minutes leads to Hwe Lon, a village of the Akha people. Continue walking to Koum Ma, a Wa tribe village. Stop for lunch at Pin Tauk Waterfall near a Lahu village. In the afternoon meet with the elusive Ann minority. Return to Keng Tung.
Dinner at Sheik Teik restaurant.
Overnight at Princess or Private Hotel, Keng Tung.


Day 3: KENG TUNG (B, L, D)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Leave the hotel after breakfast to visit the Mong Kwan area by pick-up truck. Stop at the hilltop Hwe Kwai village belonging to the Loi tribe. Observe the daily life of colourfully dressed Li Shaw people and the unique Wan Kwan mud houses. After a picnic lunch watch a traditional Lan Woan dance performance in Loi Lone village with beautiful Khun girls, in full traditional costume. Return to Keng Tung and be at leisure.
Dinner in a restaurant.
Overnight at Princess or Private Hotel, Keng Tung.


Day 4 : KENG TUNG - Departure (B)

Breakfast at the hotel.
Leave the hotel after breakfast for a walk around Keng Tung Market, the meeting point for many hill tribe people. Continue to Yan-Gone village and visit a traditional pottery workshop. Continue to Bo Lang, a village of the Ann minority and Wan Sai, and Akha community. In the afternoon transfer to Keng Tung Airport for onward flight. (If the flight is not scheduled, then go by road to Tachileik to clear immigration at the Tachileik-Mae Sai border). At Mae Sai transfer to Chiang Rai airport for your flight departure.

Requirements:
- Burmese Visa issued at a Myanmar Embassy, or at the border for a fee of USD15 per pax. Online visa application is now possible for a fee of US$40 payable by your credit card, but Keng Tung it is not necessary for a visa as a border pass suffices.
