CHIANGMAI & CHIANGRAI, 3-DAY PACKAGE.
Day 1: Chiang Mai-Thaton-Chiang
Rai (L,D)
Your guide will meet you
at Chiang Mai airport and take you on your journey to the far north of Thailand.
On the way visit the elephant camp at Chiang Dao to see an elephant show,
showing how these animals are used to help haul and stack timber logs and to
obey commands from their mahouts. Continue our pleasant drive to Thaton. Arrive in Thaton, have lunch at the Thaton River View Resort. We do some leisurely sightseeing to Wat Tha
Ton before boarding a long-tail boat to cruise down the Kok River to Chiang Rai
taking 4-5 hours, stopping to visit a hilltribe village or two (Lahu and Karen)
along the river. Riding an elephant at
a nominal charge is possible at the Karen village. At the landing jetty in Chiang Rai disembark and walk to the
hotel lobby of the Rimkok Resort.
Dinner in the hotel.
Overnight in hotel, Chiang Rai.
Day 2: Chiang
Rai-Chiang Mai (B,L,D)
Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
Full-day tour of Chiang Rai province to include ancient Chiang
Saen visiting old wat like Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Pa Sa, the west bank of the
Mekong River opposite which is Laos, on to the Golden Triangle for a splendid
view of the border where Laos, Myanmar and Thailand meet. A photo stop is made here. There are coffee stalls selling good coffee
grown in the highlands of Chiang Rai. Then
we are off to the border-town of Mae Sai the northernmost point of Thailand. You will find souvenir shops lining the main
road right up to the bridge connecting Thailand to Myanmar. Here you will see set gemstones from the
Mogok jade and ruby mines of Myanmar. (You can cross over to Tachileik in
Myanmar by paying for a border pass at the immigration checkpoints a total of
USD10. There are goods from China on
sale at the shops – like mushrooms, blankets, bedcovers and fabrics, fruits
both fresh and preserved, and “duty-free” cigarettes and liquour.) Lunch at a local restaurant. Transfer to
Chiang Mai, a drive of about about 4 hours. Check into hotel in Chiang Mai and freshen up for dinner. Pick up at
hotel lobby at 7pm for the Khantoke dinner with northern Thai cultural and hill
tribe shows. And if you have energy
enough, stroll in the Night Bazaar.
Overnight in hotel, Chiang Mai.
Day 03: Chiang Mai
Departure (B)
Buffet breakfast at the hotel. Free until time to transfer to Chiang Mai airport for your departure
flight.
