CHIANG MAI & MAE HONG SON, 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS.
DAY 1: CHIANG MAI (D)
Arrive in Chiang Mai, meet and transfer to hotel. This
evening participate in a Khantoke dinner with northern Thai and hill
tribe cultural shows. This is a northern Thai tradition of receiving
guests to their homes and putting on some form of entertainment for the
honored guests. Pick up at the hotel lobby at 7pm and return to the
hotel at about 9.30pm, or to the Night Bazaar to stroll in the
interesting night market filled with northern Thai and hill tribe
handicrafts. There are coffee cafes, ice cream parlors, health massage
places, restaurants and almost everything a tourist could want here. Overnight in a hotel, Chiang Mai.
DAY 2: CHIANG MAI (B,L)
Buffet
breakfast at the hotel. Morning excursion to the "Elephant Sanctuary
Park" to have a hands-on interaction with elephants roaming freely in
the park. Get to bathe them, feed them, give them commands and ride on
them like mahouts do on the neck instead of in a howdah. You will learn
a great deal about elephants and have a great time. Lunch in a
riverside restaurant before traveling back to Chiang Mai. isit the Doi
Suthep mountain monastery that is highly revered by the local people,
and have a panoramic view of Chiang Mai city below. Free evening. Overnight in a hotel, Chiang Mai.
DAY 3: CHIANG MAI - MAE HONG SON (B,L,D)
Buffet
breakfast at the hotel. Morning transfer to Chiang Mai airport for the
flight to Mae Hong Son. At Mae Hong Son airport your guide will meet
and take you to your hotel. This mist-covered beautifully mountainous
area is home to a mixture of Burmese and Lanna cultures. You see
evidence of this in the way the locals dress, eat and play, and in
their temple and house architecture. You enjoy pristine environment
inhabited by hill tribes and cultures you would be delighted to see and
know. Lunch in a restaurant or at the hotel. Then in the
afternoon explore the uniqueness of this place. Visit Wat Phrathat Doi
Kong Moo on a hilltop overlooking the town for a fine panoramic view of
the town. Then we drive to Wat Phra Non and to the twin temples of Wat
Jong Klang and Wat Jong Kam on the lake in town. These temples are
constructed in traditional Burmese style. Drive north from the town to
a pleasant park and walk to the cave of sacred fish to feed the blue
carps beside a hermitage. You might like to talk to the hermit if you
can find him. Overnight in hotel, Mae Hong Son.
DAY 4: MAE HONG SON - CHIANG MAI (B,L)
Breakfast
at the hotel. At 9am be picked up at your hotel for a morning tour to a
Padaung ("Longneck") Karen village. We drive for 20 minutes to the Pai
River, then travel by boat through forested countryside to the Burmese
border where the Padaung village is located. Originally nomadic, the
Padaung now rely on the sale of their handicrafts for a living. The
women wear striking clothing and as many neck-rings as they can afford
to spare from their meager earnings from tourists. Return by boat from
this village to an elephant camp for a ride on elephant back through
the forest to where your vehicle waits to take you back to your hotel.
Lunch in a restaurant or at the hotel. Free until about 1pm when it's
time to transfer to the airport to board your flight back to Chiang Mai. At Chiang Mai airport, meet and transfer to hotel and be free at leisure. Overnight in hotel, Chiang Mai.
DAY 5: CHIANG MAI - DEPARTURE (B)
Breakfast at the hotel. Transfer to the airport for your departure flight.
