ANGKOR OVERLAND FROM BANGKOK TO SIEM REAP
4 DAYS / 3 NIGHTS
DAY 1: BANGKOK - POIPET - SIEM
REAP ( D ).
At 07:30 hrs, pick up from hotel in Bangkok and go in an
air-conditioned van
(SIC ) to Aranyaprathet-Poipet (Thai-Cambodian
border), travelling time about 4 hours, and take you across for
immigration and customs formalities. Please have ready your passports and visa
fee of USD25 to get the visa into Cambodia. At Poipet our man, Heng Chay,
will arrange to transfer you to Siem Reap, taking about 2-3 hours. Arrive in
Siem Reap, check into hotel to refresh yourselves. Dinner at the hotel
or restaurant.
Overnight at Star Royal Hotel or Royal Crown Hotel (3-star)
in Siem Reap.
DAY 2: ANGKOR THOM & TONLE
SAP ( B,L,D ).
Breakfast at the hotel.
Sightseeing of Angkor Thom, the great city located next to Angkor Wat.
This was the greatest achievement of King Jayavarman VII, (r.1181-1218).
In the centre is the Bayon, a massive cluster of towers carved with 216 faces
of the Bodhisattva. Visit Phimeanakas, a 10th century temple built
by Jayavarman V; Elephants Terrace, a viewing platform from which the kings of
Angkor watched military processions and games; Terrace of the Leper King,
supposedly named after the founder of Angkor Thom whom legend says died of leprosy.
See the Baphuon of the mid-11th century dedicated to the Hindu god,
Shiva. Tour of Preah Khan dedicated to Buddhism and Neak Pean,
both built by Jayavarman VII, the latter serving as a healing place.
Lunch at Jasmine Angkor Restaurant and rest a while at
the hotel.
Afternoon, drive to the Tonle Sap and take a boat ride on this Great Lake the
Tonle Sap which is the largest fresh water source in all Southeast Asia - an
ecological wonder of the world. See the floating gardens, floating
villages and fishing boats at work. Dinner at New Bayon Restaurant.
Free Night Tour of Siem Reap if you wish (but tip the driver a total of US$5).
Overnight at Star Royal Hotel or Royal Crown Hotel in Siem Reap.
DAY 3: BANTEAY SREI, TA
PROHM & ANGKOR WAT ( B,L,D )
Breakfast at the hotel.
Pick up at 9 a.m. to drive to the temple of Banteay Srei, 38 km from Siem
Reap. It is the only pink sandstone temple exquisitely carved dated
before Angkor Wat. Visit also Ta Prohm which is unrestored and left to
the elements with giant trees embracing its stoneworks, giving Ta Prohm its
unique character. Also visit Ta Keo, an 11th century sandstone temple
dedicated to Shiva, Banteay Kdei in the image of Ta Prohm used as a
monastery, Prasat Kravan and Sra Srang. Lunch at Nests & Fins
restaurant.
In the afternoon tour Angkor Wat, the spiritual and mystical
grandeur of the Khmer civilization. The temple also served as a mausoleum
for the dead kings and was in use until 1431 when the kingdom was eliminated by
the Siamese. This place is probably the largest religious monument ever
built on earth, and is considered one of the most inspiring. Angkor Wat
was declared a world heritage site by the UNESCO, and is regarded as one of the
Seven Wonders of the Ancient World. End the day of sightseeing by
climbing up to Bakheng Hill where the Bakheng Temple ruin perpetually watches
the sun sets over Angkor. Experience a mystical wonder as Angkor Wat reflects the rays of the
setting sun. Dinner at Kulen II

DAY 4: DEPARTURE ( B )
Breakfast at hotel.
Depart at 7am from your hotel for the drive back to Poipet. Arrive in
Poipet and be escorted across to the Thai side of the border to Aranyaprathet
and be transferred overland back to Bangkok.

For your visa-upon-arrival two photos are required and a fee
of USD25.
For the laminated pass to the temple complexes, please provide one photo to
your guide who will process the pass for you. (The entry fee is already
included in the package cost.)
NOT included is the visa-upon-arrival fee of USD25, drinks
at meals other than what is served at table, and use of hotel minibar, laundry,
phone calls.
Prices in shops, restaurants and other outlets are quoted in
US Dollars or Thai Baht and Cambodian Riel everywhere in Siem
Reap-Angkor. There is no need to exchange foreign currencies into the
local Riel for the everyday spending. Bring some small denominations for
small purchases and tips.
